Stephen Chorover

Professor Emeritus, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, MIT

Stephen L. Chorover is Professor of Psychology in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT.

His graduate training was in the field of neuropsychology, and his current research interests focus on the problem of understanding relations between the organization and development of the central nervous system (and especially the brain), on the one hand, and the organization and development of mental activity and behavior, on the other.

Chorover is the author, Genesis to Genocide: The Meaning of Human Nature and the Power of Behavior Control, which takes a stands against sociobiology’s excessive impact on society. He believes that to understand consciousness it is necessary to embed social and interpersonal elements.
