Tim Bayne is Professor of Philosophy at Monash University, Australia. He is a Senior Fellow in the CIFAR Brain, Mind, and Consciousness program.
He is the author of several books including Philosophy of Mind, The Unity of Consciousness, and Thought: A Very Short Introduction. He is also editor of Delusion and Self-Deception, The Oxford Companion to Consciousness, and Cognitive Phenomenology.
Bayne also held positions at the Australian National University as a postdoctoral fellow and at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and Institut Jean Nicod, Paris as a visiting Professor. He is the Primary Investigator on a European Research Council Grant “The Architecture of Consciousness”. The aim of this project is to develop a model of the structural features of consciousness.
He has on-going research projects on levels of consciousness with Jakob Hohwy (Monash University), on the relationship between consciousness and voluntary control with Hakwan Lau (Columbia University), and on the multi-sensory nature of perception with Charles Spence (University of Oxford).
