Brian Leftow is the William P. Alston Professor for the Philosophy of Religion at Rutgers University. He was formerly the Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion at Oriel College, Oxford, succeeding Richard Swinburne, who retired in 2002.
Leftow’s scholarship focuses on philosophical theology and metaphysics, such as the relationship between God and time. His areas of research include: Medieval philosophy (Boethius, Anselm, Aquinas, Scotus, Ockham) and analytic metaphysics (universals, modality, time and space, substance, mereology, individuation, causation; philosophical theology). He is a graduate of Grove City College, and earned his MA and PhD at Yale University. Before occupying the Nolloth chair at the University of Oxford, Leftow taught at Fordham University. He is the author of several books, including Anselm on God, Aquinas on Metaphysics: Matter, Parts and Number, God and Necessity, and Time and Eternity.
