Dean Radin

Chief Scientist, Institute of Noetic Sciences

Dean Radin is a researcher and author in the field of parapsychology.

He is currently Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), in Novato, California, USA, having joined the IONS research staff in 2001. Since 2016, Radin has also been Associated Distinguished Professor of Integral and Transpersonal Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and in 2022 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Swami Vivekananda University in Bangalore, India. He served five times as President of the Parapsychological Association, an elected affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has also been an editor for the Elsevier journal Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing, since 2009.

Radin earned an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, magna cum laude and with honors in physics, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as both a Master’s degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduation, Radin worked at Bell Labs, and then held appointments at Princeton University, GTE Laboratories, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, SRI International, and Interval Research Corporation.

Radin has published over 350 technical, scientific, and popular articles, as well as four books directed to a popular audience: The Conscious Universe (1997), Entangled Minds (2006), Supernormal (2013), and Real Magic (2018). He has given hundreds of invited presentations at conferences, universities, military organizations, and government meetings around the world.

Radin has conducted parapsychological research for over four decades, drawing the conclusion, based on replicated laboratory evidence, that some psychic phenomena are genuine. He has appeared in dozens of documentary films, television and radio shows, and was featured on the BBC’s Horizon TV series explaining an experiment he designed that recorded people’s emotional response before viewing a randomized series of pictures. He believes the results to be evidence of retrocausation, a controversial conclusion supported by leading edge concepts on the nature of time, and presented at AAAS symposia on the physics of time. The effect has since been independently and successfully replicated some four dozen times by researchers around the world.
