Freeman Dyson

Theoretical Physicist and Visionary, Institute for Advanced Study

Freeman John Dyson was a British-born American theoretical physicist and mathematician, famous for his work in quantum electrodynamics, solid-state physics, astronomy and nuclear engineering.

Dyson was a member of the Board of Sponsors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and lived in Princeton, New Jersey, for over fifty years. Dyson was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Space Studies Institute, a member of the board of the Solar Electric Light Fund, and a long-time member of the JASON defense advisory group. He was also the president of the space research organization founded by Gerard K. O’Neill.

Dyson passed away in 2020.
