Michael James is a leading scholar and translator of the teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi (1879–1950), whose method of self-investigation (ātma-vicāra) has profoundly influenced the modern understanding of non-dual philosophy.
James first encountered Ramana’s teachings in 1976 while travelling through India. He soon settled in Tiruvannamalai, where he spent twenty years studying under Sri Sadhu Om, one of Ramana’s closest and most faithful disciples, gaining a deep and systematic understanding of Ramana’s philosophy and practice of self-investigation.
He is the author of Happiness and the Art of Being, widely regarded as one of the clearest introductions to Ramana’s philosophy, and the translator of Āṇma-Viddai and numerous other Tamil and Sanskrit works by Ramana. Through his blog and YouTube channel he continues to share these teachings with a worldwide audience.
