In Memoriam: Holmes Rolston III

Holmes Rolston III

Philosopher Holmes Rolston III, who explored the relationship between science and religion and who pioneered environmental ethics, has died at the age of 92.

Rolston was a leading advocate for protecting the Earth’s biodiversity and ecology in recognition of the wonderous creation. He found profound goodness and intrinsic value beyond human beings, encompassing all the hierarchies of life—plants, animals, species, ecosystems—which he unified as fundamental expressions of both theology and science. Holmes received many honors and awards for his prescient insights. He gave the Gifford Lectures at the University of Edinburgh in 1998-1999, and he was the Templeton Prize laureate in 2003.

Closer To Truth is pleased to feature a number of video interviews with Rolston to pay tribute to his remarkable legacy.
